Fading Hope

Sat Aug 8, 2009, 10:08 PM
Well the first blog. Where to I begin. In my free time I'm working on creating a Star Wars Fan film that is currently titled "Fading Light". I'm still in the very early stages of the film process. Working on the script. Trying to build props on a very tight budget the usual.

I am a past film student who hasn't done anything as far as film or video work goes in nearly ten years. So I'm using this a chance to stretch my self creatively. A lot has changed as far as home video goes in the past decade and I'll be learning a lot in the process of creating this beast.

As time goes on I'll be tossing up possible concept art as well as photos an images for the story board of the film.

When the images go up if you want to make suggestion as to camera angles I should try or costume suggestions please let me know. I'm constantly looking for new ways of seeing things :)

Other then that if I happen to favorite you or watch you just know that I probably think your work is very inspiring and I truly dig it in some way.

Hey man thanks for the watch, I got to say is I love that you are working on a film, I only have two things that I wanna say in regards to that. Fights may be long and flashy in movies, but real ones are not, lightsaber ones are an exception because of the Force and predicting the attacks, but the shorter, the more realistic. Also, when you swing, your aiming for their body, not their weapon. =] good luck my friend and may the Force be with you, always.

You bring up a good point about the fight work. My fight coragrapher has been a martial artist for many years and he brought the same points you did.

Since I haven't done any film work or editing in many years I plan on keeping the fight short to begin with. I'll be focusing more on the story of the characters instead.

Depending on how well this first film goes I'll take what I've learned into future films.

And thank you for the advice.

No problem, =]. Hope the film goes well, would love to see it when its finished. If you are going to focus more on the story and characters, I wanna advise that with dialog, keep it as real as possible. Which i know is the goal in the first place, but its really key. I also realize you've probably already thought of such things and I do not mean to be insulting so please forgive me if I am. Let your actors improvise or alter lines when needed to make it sound more real. Again I wish you luck. I'll shut up now >.<

No offense taken. After the holidays I plan on siting down with the cast and doing a table read of the first draft. I'll encourage them to tweek the script to make it sound more natural for them.

At some point in the coming months I hope to put some conceptual art up. With each page I put up. I'll add a bit of the script. I'll look forward to your critique. :)

Awesome, I am very excited for your film, especially since you have already handled the main points in most films that bother me. I look forward to seeing the script =]

Hey! Thanks for the watch!

Once when working on a Star Wars fan film that never happened, I was the senior fight choreographer for the lightsabre duels. Good luck. I hope your project goes well.
